Haiti is located approximately 750 miles southeast of Florida and just to the east of Cuba. Haiti occupies the western third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.
There are many large Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's) operating in Haiti, with the majority operating in and around the Capitol city of Port-Au-Prince (PAP). Consequently, many important services are not available in the less populated, mountainous regions in the country not located near PAP. LaVictoire is one such region. There are few opportunities for those living in the area to access needed resources. Providing hope to this under-served location is the focus of Friends of LaVic.
Donations to FOL provide the resources to pay the salaries of the 16 Haitian employees who are employed by the Olive Foundation School and Orphanage. FOL also provides meals for the 210 students and the staff at the School and the children and staff at the orphanage.
As a small organization we know we can not currently address every need of those living in the area, but we know we can do “something” to make a difference. The long-term vision for FOL is to work with the residents of the community to develop sustainable sources of income and food.
